Sindhi Kadhi

The popular Sindhi dish is unlike any other kadhi you have ever tasted. This is the most favorite food of the Sindhi community. It is delicious and nutritious and we promise it won’t fail to surprise you.


  • 4 tsp Gram Flour
  • 12- 15 Lady Fingers (cut the ends and slit it)
  • 2 Drumsticks (cut into 3-inch pieces)
  • 2 medium-sized Potatoes (cut horizontally into 4 pieces)
  • 1/2 tsp Mustard seeds
  • 1/2 tsp Cumin seeds
  • 8-10 Curry leaves
  • 5 tbsp of Oil
  • 20 pieces of Cluster beans (Gawar)
  • 10 medium-sized Tomato puree
  • 1/4 tsp Turmeric powder
  • 1 tsp Red chilli powder
  • 1 tsp Ginger (grated)
  • 1 tsp Tamarind pulp (optional)
  • Salt to taste


Heat 1 tbsp oil in deep non-stick pan and add lady fingers to it, toss in oil for 5 minutes on high flame. Remove them in a plate and keep it aside. Heat 2 tbsp oil in a in the same deep non-stick pan. Add cumin seeds , mustard seeds , ginger and curry leaves to the oil and let it crackle.

Then add gram flour and sauté till it is fragrant and turns golden brown. Add a litre of water and mix it thoroughly with a whisk to make sure that there are no lumps. Add turmeric powder to this.

To this, add cluster beans, potatoes, sautéed lady fingers, and drumsticks, salt and bring it to a boil. Now add tomato puree and red chilli powder. Mix well and let it cook for a good 30 minutes.

Once the vegetables are cooked, add tamarind pulp (optional) and mix well. Cook for 1-2 minutes. Serve hot with steamed rice.
